Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang level with Jamie Vardy in Golden Boot race after two Arsenal goals

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has joined Leicester City's Jamie Vardy at the top of the Premier League scoring charts after scoring twice to help the Gunners beat Everton 3-2 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Having seen their afternoon get off to the worst possible start, going a goal down to Dominic Calvert-Lewin's excellent finish inside the first minute, Arsenal responded through goals from Eddie Nketiah and Aubameyang.

But Everton were to come back and frustrate the Gunners just before half time when Richarlison pounced to make it 2-2.

But whatever Gunners boss Mikel Arteta said to his players at half time must have worked, as they retook the lead just seconds into the second half through Aubameyang's second of the contest.

The double for Aubameyang, who has now scored against sides managed by Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti in three different leagues, has taken him to joint-top in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot, alongside Vardy.

The pair have struck 17 goals each this season, meaning they led the way just ahead of Manchester City's Sergio Aguero on 16 and Southampton striker Danny Ings on 15 goals.

But when you compare the current runs of form that Aubameyang and Vardy find themselves on, you would argue that Aubameyang looks in better shape to bag the award this season, having scored six times in his last seven games.

Vardy, meanwhile, is currently on a run of seven league games without finding the back of the net.

Last season, of course, Aubameyang was forced to share the Golden Boot with Liverpool's Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, with the trio all netting 22 goals each across the 2018/19 campaign.
