Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang latest: New contract, Liverpool warning, Premier League title hope

Arsenal have started the season with two wins from two in the Premier League.

Thanks in most part to prolific striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who has netted the all important goals in both games against Newcastle United and Burnley.

Can he make it three from three when the Gunners face European champions Liverpool at the weekend?

Along with his teammates, Aubameyang will be training hard ahead of the trip to Merseyside as the north London outfit aim to become the first team to win at Anfield in the Premier League since May 2017.

But it's not just facing Liverpool that's on the Gabon striker's mind.

With that said, here's what's been going on in the world of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Aubameyang's Premier League title hope

Many have predicted Manchester City and Liverpool to contest a two-horse race for the Premier League title this season.

Tottenham Hotspur are being tipped to be their nearest challengers, while Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea are being tipped to battle for that final fourth spot.

However, Aubameyang is hoping to prove everybody wrong.

"I think we have made good signings, that will help us," he told French broadcaster Canal Plus. "Last season, we were not far away from qualifying for the Champions League.

"Whatever happens, that is the most important thing, the most important aim for us - to be back in the Champions League.

"Aside from that, to fight for the title, we know very well that the big guns are ready but we are also ready and in any case we are going to give our all to match the big guns if possible."

New contract

Unai Emery revealed last week that talks have begun to tie down Aubameyang to a new contract.

The striker has less than two years to run on his current £180,000-a-week deal at the Emirates Stadium and the Telegraph claim that Raul Sanllehi is structuring an offer that would give Aubameyang the opportunity to earn as much as Mesut Ozil - the club's highest earner - through bonuses if Arsenal qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Furthermore, club director Josh Kroenke spoke out about players going into the final two years of their deals.

"That’s 100 per cent on our football operations department, but I would say whatever we’re doing we’re going to be aggressive and we’re going to be decisive, and we’re going to communicate well and honestly through it all," Kroenke told the BBC.

"So from a player’s perspective, whether it’s good or bad news I think the best thing you can do is be honest with the player because they’ve only got a limited window where they can be at their physical peak.

"I would defer to all the [football operations staff] on all the contract decisions because I think they’re pretty good at it."

Liverpool warning

Liverpool are yet to keep a clean sheet this season, conceding four goals in three games - including the Super Cup penalty shoot-out win over Chelsea.

And speaking on Sky Sports Monday Night Football, Carragher says his former club could be punished against the likes of Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe and Alexandre Lacazette if they don't improve at the back.

"When you think of Aubameyang, Lacazette, Pepe maybe coming on also," he said. "When I say Liverpool have got away with it, the quality of the opposition hasn't been top class, and I said it after the Norwich game, if they were playing a top team today, they wouldn't have won.

"Considering they won 4-1, it's a big thing to say I suppose.

"But the quality Arsenal have, if Liverpool get caught in those positions and don't run back they're going to have major problems within the game.

"Of course, Liverpool are going to cause big problems going the other way I have no doubt about that, but the chances, the shots on goal they're allowing at this moment, better quality teams, better quality strikers are going to make Liverpool pay."

Imitation?

They imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

This seems to be the case at Liverpool as Virgil van Dijk and Andrew Robertson did something in training which will have alerted Aubameyang and Lacazette.

The Reds pair mimicked the Arsenal duo's handshake routine in training.

Can Aubameyang silence the Liverpool stars at the weekend?

Arsenal fans are hoping so. Full story .
