Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang issues message to Golden Boot rivals Vardy, Aguero, Salah and Rashford

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has not given up hope of retaining his Golden Boot but insists his top priority is firing Arsenal back up the Premier League table.

Aubameyang tied with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane on 22 goals last season and the Arsenal captain remains firmly in the mix to top this term's goalscoring charts. Jamie Vardy leads the way on 17 with Sergio Aguero one behind. A four-man cluster - Aubameyang, Danny Ings, Marcus Rashford and Mohamed Salah - have 14 to their name.

Goals from Aubameyang have been vital to Arsenal in a season where they have staggered to 10th, with nine of the Gunners 14 goals in away league games this season coming from the Gabon striker.

More goals from the 30-year-old could be vital if Arsenal, without a league win since January 1, are to clamber their way up the table but Aubameyang is not unduly concerned who finds the net as long as the Gunners get back to winning ways.

David Luiz hilariously pranks Arsenal teammates during winter break

Asked whether he had his eye on a repeat triumph in the Golden Boot race, Aubameyang said: "Yes. Why not?

"First of all I always say the most important is the team and our targets. Then if I can be top scorer it’s cool.

"For the moment we try to get some wins and that’s the most important."

Mikel Arteta's side flew back from Dubai yesterday after a winter break training camp that gave the Arsenal head coach time to address tactical matters with his side as well as to build a culture across the club.

Arteta has proven to be a hugely popular figure with his new players, many of whom praised the improved atmosphere around Arsenal in what could be read as a pointed dig at former boss Unai Emery.

"He's doing very well," Aubameyang said of Arteta. "We are improving every day. We're feeling much better than the beginning of the season.

"[The Dubai trip is] a good one for the spirit of the team. We're feeling well and have great facilities. We try to improve every day."
