Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang intervenes as Alexandre Lacazette pokes fun at William Saliba

Arsenal new boy William Saliba was part of their FA Cup final win despite being unable to feature on the pitch.

The young defender, who spent the season on loan at Saint-Etienne after his transfer last summer, watched on with his team-mates after linking up with the Gunners a few weeks ago.

He was in the middle of their dressing room celebrations at Wembley after they downed Chelsea 2-1 to lift the historic cup for the 14th time.

But new team-mate Alexandre Lacazette could not help but take the opportunity to poke fun at the youngster.

Lacazette, who signed for Arsenal from Saint-Etienne’s arch rivals Lyon, teased Saliba as he said in French: “You’re not at St Étienne anymore - here we win trophies”.

Saliba was unable to feature for Saint-Etienne as they faced Paris Saint-Germain in the French Cup final earlier this month.

He watched on from the stands as his former team-mates went down 1-0 after the club were unable to reach an agreement with Arsenal to allow him to play.

Saliba appeared to take the joke in good spirits as he laughed off Lacazette - but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang intervened to defend his former club.

Aubameyang also played for Saint-Etienne before becoming an Arsenal star and he told Lacazette on footage shared on his Instagram story: “Ooooh you calm down now about St Étienne.”

Aubameyang joined Saint-Etienne in 2011 after a successful loan spell from AC Milan and became a prolific goalscorer in his two seasons.

He eventually left for Borussia Dortmund before his Arsenal switch in 2018.

But his future is still uncertain at the Emirates with hopes he has not played his final game for the club as he remains yet to commit his long-term future by signing a new contract.

Saliba, meanwhile, is hoping to become the latest successful product of Saint-Etienne as he arrives in north London with high hopes of becoming Arsenal’s answer at the heart of defence.
