Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hits out at "clown" Dortmund chief after money swipe

Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has accused Borussia Dortmund chief Hans-Joachim Watzke of double standards after the CEO claimed the forward only joined the Gunners for the money.

Aubameyang left Dortmund for Arsenal in a £56million deal in January last year, and he has since gone on to score 49 times in 73 appearances for the North Londoners.

That followed one from a similarly prolific spell at the Westfalenstadion, where his 141 strikes in 213 games made him on of Europe's hottest properties.

He was linked with a move to several clubs including Real Madrid , but ultimately opted to switch to the Premier League.

Watzke referenced Aubameyang , who has been linked with moves away and could fetch a sum of around £100million were he to leave Dortmund.

"Of course it is hard to keep a player in the face of such sums," he told Suddeutsche Zeitung.

“Some go to clubs because of this money, where they have not played Champions League for years.

"[Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang, who plays great at Arsenal , will probably be warm-hearted when he looks at his bank account, but on Wednesdays will be saddened when he has to watch the Champions League on television."

Aubameyang - who is yet to play in the Champions League for Arsenal - tweeted in response on Thursday and referenced Dortmund's decision to sell Ousmane Dembele to Barcelona in 2017, writing: "Better for you I never talk about why I really left Dortmund Mr Watzke, you such a clown.

"I remember that time you said we never gonna sell Ousmane then you saw more than 100M you were the first to take that money don’t talk about money please!!! Leave me alone pls."

The Gabonese forward is in the Arsenal squad to face Standard Liege on Thursday evening.
