Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hints at new Arsenal contract with Twitter tease

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has sent Arsenal fans into a frenzy with his latest Twitter tease amid speculation he is set to sign a new contract.

The 31-year-old scored 22 goals in the Premier League in the 2019/20 campaign and it was his double against Chelsea which helped Arsenal secure their 14th FA Cup triumph at Wembley earlier this month.

It was no surprise, then, to see Aubameyang scoop Arsenal's Player of the Season award with a huge 74 per cent share of the votes.

However, the Gabonese's contract is set to expire in less than 12 months' time and until now, Aubameyang has held off from putting pen to paper as well as staying silent on his future.

But that could be about to change, with Arsenal increasingly optimistic that their captain will sign a new contract after securing Europa League football next season.

With a reported contract offer worth £40 million over three years on the table, it seems ever more likely that Aubameyang will extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium.

On Sunday, the forward teased fans by posting a cryptic tweet via his official Twitter account to suggest an announcement is imminent, only using an ellipsis and an hourglass emoji to communicate his thoughts.

For now, the wait goes on for official confirmation and with no Champions League football next season, it is entirely possible he could still depart.

But given the positive steps the club have taken under Mikel Arteta, it would be another feather in the cap for the Spanish head coach should Aubameyang choose to commit his future to Arsenal.
