Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a target of Barcelona, as per reports in Spain.
The Catalan giants parted ways with arguably their best player ever last week as Lionel Messi left for PSG due to financial concerns, and they’re also looking to offload Denmark striker, Martin Braithwaite.
That makes their interest a little bit surprising, but according to Spanish media outlet SPORT, Barcelona are preparing a list of striker targets, and are considering signing Aubameyang as well as his forward partner in north London, Alexandre Lacazette.
The two missed the opening game of the Premier League through illness, but have been Arsenal’s two main sources of goals over the last few years.
However, if Aubameyang’s dream transfer is anything to go by, he would never move to Barcelona.
During his Borussia Dortmund days, he admitted his desire to one day play for Real Madrid, as per FOTMOB, and he even claimed that Los Blancos was the only club he would leave the Bundesliga outfit for.
“The only club I would leave Dortmund for are Real Madrid. If they don't come calling, I don't leave,” he said.
"My grandfather, the dad of my mum, always wished that I would play in Spain. Two years ago, when he died, I promised him that someday I will play for Real - and I work hard to reach that goal.
"Real Madrid is my main goal but at the moment I like it in Dortmund. If there is a chance to go to Madrid, I will say immediately yes - but at the moment there is no contact."
A deal to Madrid obviously never materialised back then, and now that he has made Arsenal his home after signing a new deal in September of last year, it looks unlikely to ever happen – just as a transfer to Barcelona looks equally doubtful.
