Arsenal shook off a last-gasp loss to Everton on Monday and a sluggish start on Saturday to eventually get the best of Southampton at the Emirates Stadium.
The visitors were the better side in the early stages, but a fine goal from Alexandre Lacazette at the end of a slick team move shifted the momentum of the game.
Strikes from Martin Odegaard and Gabriel eventually propelled the Gunners out of sight.
The three points put Mikel Arteta's side up to fifth place in the Premier League table, a point behind West Ham United in fourth.
However, the spectre of a potential disciplinary issue for star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang loomed large over the contest, as he was left out of the squad completely.

Arteta clarifies Aubameyang situation
Ahead of the showdown with Saints, Arteta was asked about Aubameyang's absence from the squad and confirmed the decision was not based on football.
The striker has had a slow start to the season and had a tough night on Monday at Everton.
After being left out of the starting XI, Arteta turned to Eddie Nketiah ahead of the Gabon forward and when Aubameyang did get on the field he missed a big chance to grab a late equaliser for the Gunners.

Since that encounter, it appears something has happened to prompt Arteta into making a bold call.
"Unfortunately due to a disciplinary breach," he said. "I think we have been very consistent that we have certain non-negotiables in the team that we have set ourselves as a club, and he's not involved today."

Aubameyang on the brink?
It's been reported Aubameyang returned from a trip for personal reasons later than expected, meaning he missed training on Friday ahead of the Southampton showdown.
Speaking on BT Sport Score, former Premier League striker Chris Sutton provided his view on the situation and suggested the 32-year-old may have played his last game at the Emirates Stadium.
"Not while Arteta is there," said Sutton when asked if he could see a way back for Aubameyang at Arsenal.
"What I do find interesting is that Arteta could have kept it quiet, in-house, but he hasn't done. He knows what's going to happen now that it's out in the public domain."

Arsenal sweep aside Saints
As has been the case for large portions of the season, Arsenal were able to get by without Aubameyang.
It took Arteta's team some time to find their groove, as they required some smart work from Aaron Ramsdale to keep the game at 0-0 in the initial exchanges.
However, once they put together their first slick passing move, which ultimately culminated in Lacazette's opener, there was no looking back for a much stronger Arsenal side.
Josh O'Brien looked at the main talking points from what was eventually a routine win for Arteta's side.
