Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang explains Mikel Arteta's Arsenal half-time adjustment vs Newcastle

Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang explained how a half-time adjustment from Mikel Arteta helped spark their second half route against Newcastle.

The Gunners were unable to break down their opponents in the first half with Aubameyang often looking isolated out on the left wing.

But he drifted inside and opened the scoring with a powerful header from a floated Nicolas Pepe cross shortly after the interval.

It sparked a rampant second half display with Pepe adding a second shortly afterwards before injury time strikes from Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette secured their first win since New Year's Day.

Speaking after the game, Aubameyang revealed how Arteta told him to move into a more central role as a second striker behind Eddie Nketiah, making his first Premier League start.

The change clearly paid off as they delivered a superb 45 minutes to win just their seventh game of the Premier League season.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Aubameyang said: "We started not at our best but in the second half we put some more energy in and we scored the goals.

"We spoke at half-time and the coach told me to stay as a second striker and take my position off Eddie [Nketiah].

"They were playing very deep and compact so it was good for us to have me in the middle to give more space out wide."

At the interval, Jamie Redknapp claimed Aubameyang looked "lost" out wide and did not look as happy with the tactics deployed by Arteta prior to the change.

Redknapp told Sky Sports: "I can't help but think Aubameyang looks lost on the left wing.

"I know he's played there in his career but he just doesn't look right out there.

"Nketiah's done OK, but it just feels he (Aubameyang) like he looks lost.

"There's no real spark about the Arsenal players, the fans.

"I always like to see him more centrally. He just doesn't look as happy out here."
