Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang becomes fastest Arsenal player to 50 Premier league goals with Norwich strike

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has become the fastest player to reach 50 Premier League goals in Arsenal’s history.

The Gabonese forward opened the scoring in Wednesday night’s meeting with Norwich City at the Emirates, profiting from an horrendous error from Canaries ‘keeper Tim Krul to roll into an empty net.

The effort was the 31-year-old’s 50th in just 79 league appearances since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018, bettering Thierry Henry’s club record of 83 games.

Andy Cole holds the record for the fastest half-century in Premier league history, reaching the landmark in just 65 games.

Aubameyang ranks sixth overall, with Alan Shearer, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Fernando Torres and Mo Salah the other players to have got to 50 quicker.

The goal was Aubameyang’s 18th of the season in the league, taking him within one of top scorer Jamie Vardy as he looks to defend the golden boot he won jointly with Salah and Sadio Mane last season.
