Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang assaulted by armed gang at home in Barcelona amid Chelsea transfer link

Barcelona star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was attacked and robbed at his home by four people wearing masks, club officials have confirmed. The Spanish giants have said that he and his wife had been threatened with guns and iron bars but, despite the robbery, they are both doing well.

According to Spanish outlet El Pais, as quoted by Sky Sports, the 33-year-old striker was hit and forced to open a safe where the couple stored jewellery. The report says that the couple were tie up and handcuffed during the incident which took place on Monday.

Authorities have reportedly said at least four masked robbers entered Aubameyang's house, where he lives with his wife and two children just outside of Barcelona in Castelldefels. ESPN say that the Gabon international's home is just 200 metres from houses owned by Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

ESPN add that Aubameyang returned from Barcelona's 4-0 win over Real Valladolid on Sunday evening shortly before the incident occurred. The report concludes by referencing police sources, claiming that the group are yet to have been caught.

This summer, Aubameyang has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea as Thomas Tuchel looks to bolster his frontline. football.london understand that the Blues submitted a £22million bid for the striker last week.

It's said that the west Londoners are very confident Barcelona will accept their latest proposal. Tuchel is eager to reunite with Aubameyang, who prospered under the German's stewardship at Borussia Dortmund. The Chelsea boss has specifically identified the striker as a priority signing before the window slams shut at the end of the month.

When asked of Aubameyang in a pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea's clash with Tottenham Hotspur a week or so ago, Tuchel said: "I enjoyed a lot working with him [at Borussia Dortmund]. It was a pleasure.

"This has nothing to do with the situation now, but players stay your players because you work very, very close. Auba is one of these players. We had a very close relationship. Always when we played him here with Arsenal, there was always straight away this close bond. They always stay your players in a way, Auba is one of these guys."
