Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette latest ahead of Arsenal's crunch clash with Chelsea

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette are both doubts for Arsenal's Premier League game against Chelsea on Sunday, football.london understands.

The striker duo were absent for the league opener against Brentford on Friday night due to illness, with the Gunners forced to field youngsters Folarin Balogun and Gabriel Martinelli in attack.

With Eddie Nketiah on the sidelines until the end of August, manager Mikel Arteta could look to play Balogun in the game at Emirates Stadium next Saturday.

"[Aubameyang and Lacazette] feel unwell, that's all I can say. Instead of thinking of excuses, we think of solutions so that's what we will do today," Arteta told Sky Sports before the 2-0 defeat at the Brentford Community Stadium.

Goalkeeper Alex Runarsson and Willian also didn't feature in Friday's match, with both players unlikely to be in Arteta's plans for the new season.

When asked whether the performance against Brentford has created a sense of urgency in the transfer market, Arteta insisted he knows where his team need to improve.

"We are very clear of what we wanted to do, what our strengths are and where we can improve. I don’t think today’s performance shows anything different to what we’ve already seen."

Meanwhile, Arsenal want to sign Martin Odegaard this summer after Norwegian signalled his intent to leave Real Madrid.

football.london revealed in June that Arsenal want to sign Odegaard after his short loan spell at Emirates Stadium.

Arteta confirmed towards the end of last season that the club want to sign Odegaard, after he scored two goals and made two assists in his five-month loan spell.

A back-up goalkeeper is also wanted with Barcelona's Neto and Newcastle shot stopper Freddie Woodman among the potential targets.

Hector Bellerin's future remains uncertain with Arsenal yet to offer the Spaniard a new contract, while the likes of Lucas Torreira and Sead Kolasinac could leave before the window closes.
