Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sent message by Joe Willock over Arsenal contract saga

Joe Willock has told Arsenal team-mate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to sign a new contract because he "loves to play with him".

Forward Aubameyang is heading into the last year of his current Gunners deal which could force the club to cash in this summer rather than risk losing him nothing at the end of next season.

Talks are apparently underway to keep the Gabon star at the Emirates, and midfielder Willock is hopeful that there is a positive conclusion sooner rather than later.

"Obviously, everyone knows he’s an amazing guy, not only is he our captain, he’s a massive, massive player for us," Willock told The Beautiful Game podcast.

"I don’t really know what’s going on with that stuff [the contract situation], but, I love to play with him.

"As I said, he’s an amazing guy and hopefully he’ll stay at the club and I can learn from him even more."

Willock was then asked whether Aubameyang was content at Arsenal, which was responded with a laugh before saying: "He looks happy."

Aubameyang proved his importance to the Arsenal side by netting twice to down Manchester City and send the Gunners to the FA Cup final - where they will face either Manchester United or Chelsea on August 1.

After his impressive performance, manager Mikel Arteta provided a positive update to fans about the progress of the contract negotiations.

Arteta said: “Hopefully it will help him to be more convinced we are going in the right direction.

"I think if everybody has beautiful moments they are better than bad.

"The way he looks at it when I speak with him, he sounds pretty convinced.

"But if he can see the success and direction we are taking it is the right one, I think he’ll be more positive about it, yes."
