Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior is closing in on a move to Porto, which would free the Gunners up to swoop for Piero Hincapie.

Kiwior has been attracting interest from numerous clubs this summer after impressing for Arsenal towards the end of last season.

The centre-back started the final 12 games of the campaign and excelled in the absence of the inured Gabriel.

Standard Sport reported this month how Porto were hoping to sign Kiwior and it is understood that they are now closing in on an agreement with Arsenal.

Reports in Portugal claim the deal is set to be a loan move with an obligation to make the switch permanent next summer.

It is claimed the total deal will be worth around £21.5million and Kiwior could even fly to Portugal on Tuesday to undergo a medical, although a final agreement is yet to be struck between the clubs.

The departure of Kiwior would clear the way for Arsenal to make a move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Hincapie.

The Gunners hold a long-term interest in the 23-year-old, who like Kiwior can play in the heart of defence or at left-back.

Hincapie has a release clause worth around £52m but Arsenal will hope to strike a deal for less than that.

He would become Arsenal’s eight signing this summer and take their total spending towards the £300m mark.

Arsenal hope to get players out the door in the final week of the transfer window, with Albert Sambi Lokonga, Fabio Vieira and Reiss Nelson among those looking for new clubs.
