Pierluigi Collina provides Premier League warning on penalty rules following Women's World Cup controversy

Pierluigi Collina has urged the Premier League to follow the penalty rules that have caused controversy at the Women’s World Cup.

VAR has been used to determine whether keepers are advancing before penalties, leading to a number of re-takes.

As things stand, the Premier League will leave these decisions to onfield officials but Fifa referees’ chief Collina said: “The laws must be enforced in every country, every member association and in every competition.

"You cannot decide how to enforce the laws if you don’t like something."

Scotland led Argentina 3-2 last week in Paris in a game they needed to win to stand a chance of progressing to the last 16, with goalkeeper Lee Alexander saving an initial spot-kick from Florencia Bonsegundo before the latter scored at the second time of asking.

France and Italy have also scored with re-taken penalties, while three players have been shown yellow cards for encroachment at the tournament.
