Pierce Brosnan to feature in Will Ferrell’s Netflix film about Eurovision song contest

Pierce Brosnan is set to feature in Will Ferrell’s Netflix film about the Eurovision song contest alongside actress Rachel McAdams.

No stranger to a tune or two featuring in Mamma Mia one and Mamma Mia two, the Navan native is rumoured to play the role of an Icelander.

Eurovision is a comedy set around the “The Eurovision Song Contest” – the longest-running annual international TV song competition.

The Icelandic National Broadcasting Service RúV said that American comedian Will Ferrell and Canadian actress Rachel McAdams will both play Icelanders also.

Ferrell discovered the Eurovision thanks to his Swedish actress wife Viveca Paulin who has been a selector for the Swedish representative.

Rachel McAdams was at this year’s competition in Israel and last year Will Ferrell attended the event in Portugal.

Filming is due to begin in London this week and is also expected to take place in the North Iceland town of Húsavík and Tel Aviv.

According to HNEntertainment, Game of Thrones arts director Paul Inglis will be the production designer on the Netflix comedy.

The rest of the crew will include Spider-Man: Far From Home art director Nigel Evans (Deadpool, War For The Planet of The Apes, Morbius) and costume designer Anna B. Sheppard (Fury, Overlord, Captain America: The First Avenger).

Adam McKay (Vice, The Big Short) is also producing the film.

The comedy will be directed by David Dobkin with a script penned by Will and Andrew Steele.
