Pierce Brosnan not bitter about way role of James Bond was taken from him

Pierce Brosnan has revealed he's not bitter about the way the role of Bond was taken from him and said he does not let regret come into his life.

Despite losing the part to Daniel Craig in difficult circumstances the 67-year- old said he does not look back with sadness.

The legendary actor who was born in Co Louth starred in four 007 films, from 1995's GoldenEye to 2002's Die Another Day, but found out he wouldn't be returning for a fifth over the phone.

Producers said at the time the franchise needed a grittier reboot.

Commenting on the loss of the iconic role Pierce said: "There's no regret.

Despite previously saying that he had felt 'kicked to the curb' by the rejection, Brosnan is now philosophical about the end of his time as the famous superspy.

Taking the positives from his time playing 007, he told the Guardian: "Bond is the gift that keeps giving and has allowed me to have a wonderful career."

Taking on the role of Bond means you’ll never escape the title he explained.

He elaborated: "Once you're branded as a Bond, it's with you forever, so you better make peace with it and you'd better understand that when you walk through those doors and pick up the mantle of playing James Bond."

Now Craig is reaching the end of his time as 007, with his final 007 film, No Time to Die scheduled for release in November, producers will cast a new fresh faced Bond.

Brosnan was tight-lipped about what producers should do next.

He refused to say whether a black person or a woman playing Bond could be on the cards: "I'm gonna leave that right there."
