If you’re forever trying to find new places for a weekend walk this riverside stretch is well worth a visit.
With plenty of space to stick to social distancing rules, the area doesn’t tend to get over crowded even on warm days.
With views of the Mersey and beautiful trails full of wild flowers and birds flying over head, Pickerings Pasture is a nature lover’s dream and a good place to enjoy the peace and quiet.
At this time of the year you can walk through a buttercup meadow, spot red poppies and see butterflies along the way.

Sightings of Canadian geese, rabbits and mallards have also been reported by the Friends of Pickerings Pasture volunteer group.
Pickerings Pasture nature reserve can be accessed by driving to Mersey View Road in Widnes (WA8 8LP) where you will find a car park, as well as road side parking.
The area is also popular with cyclists who make their way there on the loopline.
A paved pathway suitable for bikes, pushchairs and wheelchairs runs along the river, with views of the Mersey Gateway bridge and old Runcorn bridge.
Away from the pathway, there are several meadows to explore, with plenty of picnic spots.
Being on the flight path it’s also a good place to spot the planes flying overhead.
People visiting during the coronavirus pandemic are reminded to stick to two metre social distancing rules and not to visit the area if you’ve develop any symptoms.
