Pictures show work being done to reopen lane on A52 Clifton Bridge

Highways England have released pictures to show the work being done by engineers to reopen one lane on Clifton Bridge as soon as possible.

The eastbound bridge has been completely closed since Thursday, February 6, after corroded steel work and damaged concrete was discovered on the underside of the bridge.

The highways agency had planned to reopen one lane eastbound after the Nottingham Forest vs Charlton game finished on Tuesday, February 11, but engineers were unable to complete the construction of a safety barrier in time.

Safety barrier sections are now being off-loaded on the bridge as the construction of the barrier continues on day seven (February 12) of the closure.

More than 28,000 fans attended the game at City Ground, and it was hoped many would be able to travel back across the eastbound bridge at around 9.30pm.

Highways England previously said: "A spokesman for Highways England said: "We have been unable to complete safety barrier installation and therefore cannot reopen a lane this evening as previously hoped.

"We know this is causing extreme inconvenience for all road users in the Nottingham area but safety remains our priority.

"We are still working to open a lane on eastbound A52 as soon as it is safe to do so. Further updates will be posted when the information becomes available."

The exact lane which may reopen in the near future is yet to be confirmed.

A city-wide plan remains in place as work continues.
