Pictures show work behind the scenes at the Broadmarsh

Construction work on the new Broadmarsh shopping centre is taking place at the Middle Pavement entrance.

Pictures of some of the work was captured by Nottinghamshire Live photographer Marie Wilson.

Scaffolding has been built at the entrance which brings shoppers out onto Bridlesmith Gate.

The overall Broadmarsh area regeneration is estimated to cost £250 million, which includes £89 million for intu Broadmarsh.

Parts of the new car park and the intu shopping centre will be glass-sided.

When the regeneration project is complete in summer 2021, the glass-fronted building will also include new restaurants and high street shops.

The Light, a new cinema which will be built in the heart of the centre following the demolition, will feature nine screens.

The shopping centre was originally opened in 1975 by the Duke of Gloucester, and featured a large Co-operative store, Witney's, Newman Granger, and a Wimpy restaurant.

Intu also plans on including a bowling alley and a mix of high-street and independent shops.

The redevelopment programme forms part of the £600m worth of regeneration in the Southside area of the city such as at Nottingham Station , Station Street and Unity Square.

Works to create a "world-class" visitor destination at Nottingham Castle and a new Nottingham College City Hub began in 2018.

Across Collin Street, work is also taking place on the new Broadmarsh Car Park, Bus Station and new Central Library and at Unity Square near Nottingham Station, where a new government hub for 4,000 staff will be created.

Other schemes include new homes in the area and the refurbishment of existing buildings along Carrington Street.
