Pictures show the real fun of Liverpool pubs at Christmas

A Dutch photographer has captured what life is like on a typical Christmas night out in Liverpool.

Michiel Blijboom has taken pictures in pubs, clubs and gigs across England for more than a decade.

Last Christmas, he snapped people getting into the festive spirit in Liverpool pubs including The Vines on Lime Street, Smokie Mo’s on Great Charlotte Street and Cooper’s Town House on Cases Street.

The photographer reached out the Echo to share his pictures and explain his love for the city.

He said: “I've lived in Manchester for a while and I absolutely loved it. However, Scousers are even more outgoing [and crazy] than Mancs. And going out in Liverpool, from Friday to Sunday, is better than anywhere else in Blighty. Only Newcastle gets close.

“Favourite pubs are [and have always been] little Coopers, Vines [when it is packed] and Grapes in Mathew Street.”

During his time in the city, Michiel has also taken pictures at Liverpool FC and Everton, and during the Grand National and International Beatle week.

He said: “Every single visit to Liverpool creates unforgettable memories. I don't think I've ever had a boring time there.”
