Pictures show swimmers ignoring warning signs next to Colwick lakes

Pictures have emerged of people swimming and lounging on a lake at a Nottingham beauty spot, despite clear signs prohibiting this.

The images were taken at one of the lakes at Colwick Country Park on Tuesday afternoon (June 8) when temperatures in the city reached 23C with blue skies.

It's prompted many to flock to outdoor areas, with Colwick park being described as "like Ibiza" with the lakeside covered with sunbathers.

But while some may have seen the water has an invitation for a dip to cool off, there are signs at the water's edge warning people not to enter.

The Nottingham City Council website states there are opportunities to go open water swimming at Colwick but only by prior arrangement as part of official sessions.

It adds: "Swimming at Colwick Country Park is not permitted on any lake other than during the organised Nottingham City Open Water Swimming sessions.

"Boats and inflatables are also not permitted."

While visiting the park today (June 9) a Nottinghamshire Live reporter confirmed with community support officers the reason for the rules is for safety reasons, as there are no lifeguards on duty.
