Pictures show Splendour mess left at Wollaton Park

It wasn't just revellers waking up in a bit of a mess this morning, the aftermath of last night's Splendour Festival was clear to see around the grounds of Wollaton Park.

Pictures, released by Nottingham City Council, show overflowing bins, abandoned camping chairs and blankets along with hundreds of empty plastic cups littering the grassy hill leading to the historic hall.

Headliners the Manic Street Preachers had barely left the stage last night (July 20) when the Splendour cleaning squad arrived with their litter pickers collecting the remnants of the one-day festival.

The City Centre Cleansing Team then arrived early this morning to finish the job - and as you can see in the gallery, it's like nothing had happened.

The council posted the pictures to its official Twitter account and while many people praised the team's efforts it was also felt such an extensive clean-up operation shouldn't be necessary.

Twitter user Sandra Doyle commented: "Great job, but shouldn’t be necessary. Need more bins and responsible people," while @merlinsbane said: "People should be ashamed leaving that mess behind for someone else to clean up".

This year's Splendour Festival the biggest to date with 25,000 tickets sold in record time.

Acts included All Saints, The Specials and Rag'n'Bone Man.
