Pictures show new flood defences being installed along River Trent

These pictures show brand new flood barriers being installed along the River Trent to prevent homes being flooded.

The Environment Agency has been installing 72 new sheets at the side of the river in Newark with the help of engineers from AmcoGiffen.

Defences will help protect those living in homes at Brewer's Wharf, an area at the side of the river prone to flooding.

Pictures show excavators digging trenches in which the piling sheets are then placed in, preventing homes being flooded in the event that the river bursts its banks.

Operations Manager for the agency, Kelly Golds, said: "AmcoGiffen are working on behalf of the Environment Agency East Mids to renew flood defences in Newark.

"To date 72 piling sheets have been installed alongside the Trent.

"These defences help reduce flood risk to people and property in Brewer's Wharf when levels on the Trent rise in flood events."
