Pictures show major transformation plans for 'unsafe and neglected' part of Southmead

There are plans to completely transform an 'unsafe and neglected' part of Southmead into a brand new housing development.

The redevelopment is set to be one of the largest community led housing projects in the UK to date.

The project is being managed by the Southmead Development Trust and the United Communities housing association, but with the support of Bristol City Council.

A masterplan for the project includes 300 new homes, community space, retail units as well as green space and other associated infrastructure.

The plan has been more than five years in the making, and in September last year the trust finally submitted a planning application for phase one of the project which focuses on the regeneration of Glencoyne Square and Arnside Road.

Proposals include 120 apartments - 85 per cent of which would be affordable - as well a health centre, library, live-work accommodation and other uses potentially including offices, activity space and a launderette.

Glencoyne Square was chosen for development after being identified by the community as underused, neglected and unsafe according to the Southmead Development Trust.
