Pictures show Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp embroiled in bizarre post-match row at Southampton

Liverpool's defeat to Southampton on Monday night continued the Reds' stuttering recent form.

On the pitch, Jurgen Klopp's side failed to find the net for the second game in succession, and there was some ill-feeling about the 1-0 defeat after the Reds were convinced they had two penalty decisions go against them.

Sadio Mane went down under a tackle from Kyle Walker-Peters, whilst Gini Wijnaldum's shot struck Jack Stephens' arm, prompting Klopp to bemoan his side's luck.

That ill-feeling appears to have remained post-match, too, with pictures appearing to show some players and Klopp becoming embroiled in a bizarre row with the home side's staff.

In pictures posted on Twitter by Hampshire Live's Tom Leach, the Reds squad can be seen doing their post-match warm-down in the penalty area at St Mary's, which prompted complaints from Southampton's ground staff.

The penalty area and goal mouth is often considered a 'no go' area by ground staff as the turf can become quite fragile due to how often players are on it during a match.

As such, only goalkeepers tend to warm-up in the area pre-match, and many teams warm-down elsewhere on the pitch.

It is unclear why the Reds opted to conduct their warm-down in the St Mary's penalty area but it grabbed the attention of Southampton's ground staff.

Pictures subsequently show James Milner speaking with the ground staff over their complaints before Jurgen Klopp came out of the dressing rooms to discuss the issue.

Six Reds players were seen warming down and running in the penalty area with a coach, whilst a further member of staff spoke with Southampton's staff.

Milner, still wearing his kit, then spoke with the staff and could be seen gesturing with them before Klopp also became involved.
