Pictures show how Nottingham's streets are being deep cleaned during lockdown

With Nottingham's streets empty of shoppers, workers and pedestrians, its dedicated cleaning team have seized the opportunity to disinfect every nook and cranny of the city centre.

From shop fronts and alleyways to benches and bins, the Nottingham City Council workers were snapped in the process of deep cleaning both Wheeler Gate and Lister Gate.

Wearing gloves and protective suits the street cleansing team are also continuing to remove litter.

City Council Portfolio Holder for Communities, Councillor Rebecca Langton, said: “Our first priority is to make sure we can continue to deliver vital services throughout this lockdown, including collecting waste and maintaining good hygiene standards across the city.

“We took the opportunity of low footfall in the city centre for the last two weeks to deep clean and disinfect shop fronts, alleyways, benches and bins. Our street cleansing teams will continue with litter removal and essential cleansing to keep the city hygienic and clean. They are doing a fantastic job during these difficult times.”
