Pictures show how new estate of hundreds of homes in Cardiff could look

New pictures show how a new estate made up of hundreds of homes in Cardiff could look.

Fresh plans reveal further detail for the third phase of the Churchlands development near Lisvane and Pontprennau.

The next phase of Churchlands is set to see 271 homes (217 open market and 54 affordable) being built if planning permission is approved.

Redrow's wider Churchlands development involves 1,000 homes, a new primary school and public open space. The first phase of housing in Churchlands, called Plas Ty Draw, is almost complete and several homes have already been sold.

Wales' capital is in the midst of the biggest expansion it has ever seen. This is what's happening with the developments around the city .

Cardiff's Tramshed gig venue at risk if huge flat block goes ahead, say venue bosses

The Churchlands phase three site will be bounded to the north by St Mellons Road, to the south by the Maerdy Hub around Maerdy Place, open fields to the east and existing large detached homes forming the edge of Lisvane to the west.

The open market houses would be between two and three storeys and be terraced, semi-detached or detached, while the affordable homes would either be flats or two-storey houses.

A segregated cycleway, which would be three metres wide, is being planned for the main spine road through the development. The developer says parking off the main road will not be on-street.

A consultation on the phase three plans is being held until May 16.

The Churchlands development would form part of Cardiff council's masterplan for 4,500 new homes on farmland between Lisvane and Pontprennau.

It will sit next to another development of 2,500 homes, on land south of the M4 between Llanishen Reservoir and Cardiff Gate Business Park, being drawn up by Taylor Wimpey.
