Pictures released by the fire service show the shocking extent of the damage after an M1 crash.
Nottinghamshire Police were called at about 2.20pm on Tuesday (September 24) to reports of a crash involving two lorries and a van.
It happened on the southbound carriageway of the motorway between junction 25 and junction 24a.
A number of lanes were closed while emergency services rescued a man trapped in the lorry.
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service Castle Donington Station shared pictures of the aftermath.
A spokesman said: "The driver of HGV was released from the vehicle and taken to Queen's Medical Centre.
"Don't forget to adhere to the two-second rule, leaving a large enough gap between yourself and the vehicle in front. Also take regular breaks especially if you feel tired."
They added: "We were assisted by crews from Stapleford Fire Station (NFRS) and Nottingham Road Fire Station (DFRS), East Midlands Ambulance Service, Nottinghamshire Police and Highways England."
A spokesman for East Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 2.19pm on September 24 to the M1 at junction 24.
“The caller reported that there had been a road traffic collision.
“We sent a paramedic in a fast response car and an ambulance and two patients were taken to Queen’s Medical Centre.”
The M1 didn't fully reopen on Tuesday until around 9pm after a number of incidents due to poor weather conditions.
