Pictures show damage to discount store trashed in axe gang attack

Pictures show how a discount store was smashed up and trashed by a gang carrying hammers and an axe.

The groups of thugs attack the County Road Discount Store, in Walton, at around 10.30am on Friday morning.

Horrified shoppers watched on as four men put holes in the front of the shop, smashed a window and broke the windscreen of a nearby car.

Images, taken by a customer, show smashed glass on the inside of the store while outside, significant damage was caused to the facade.

A number of large dents could be seen on the signage of the store where the hammer struck multiple times.

Six holes could also be seen broken through a poster for smoking accessories that was outside.

A car on Wilburn Street was also smashed with the hammers before the gang fled the scene in a 4x4 car.

Thankfully no one was injured in the incident but witnesses said the damage was bad for the business and staff didn't know what the motive for the attack was.

Police are now asking witnesses to come forward to help with their investigation.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We are appealing for information after it was reported a shop front and car were damaged by offenders in Walton.
