Pictures show damage after Hanham house struck by lightning

It may have been the site of a dramatic fireball explosion fewer than 24 hours ago, but thankfully pictures taken this morning of the lightning strike site in Hanham revealed limited exterior damage to the property.

The chimney of a house in High Street was struck shortly after 12am on Wednesday, July 24 -

The dramatic footage shows an orange ball of flame and sparks bursting from property as it is struck by a bolt of lightning during the fierce electrical storm.

A crew from Kingswood fire station attended the scene shortly after midnight with Temple Fire Station also providing a turntable ladder.

Firefighters removed a loose chimney pot from the roof of the property, and inspected the structure using a thermal imaging camera in order to ensure that no further damage had been caused internally.

Aside from some damage to the surrounding roof tiles and parts of the chimney, the house itself appears to have emerged from the storm relatively unscathed.

As the electric storm raged over the city, residents across Bristol managed to capture some spectacular footage of the lightning sparking through the night sky.

There are no further warnings for thunderstorms following last night's display, however the dramatic weather is set to continue as tomorrow's temperature could rise to 32C in Bristol, with the potential for a record-breaking 39C in southern and eastern parts of the UK.
