Pictures show construction that has transformed London in last 150 years

The Swan and Edgar Store after damage in a Zeppelin raid in 1917

Some things never change — like building work taking place in London.

These two pictures show just some of the construction that has transformed the capital in the past 150 years.

They are from the archives of the same firm, BAM Construct UK, which counts London landmarks from Liberty, Tate Britain, Harvey Nichols and BBC Television Centre among its projects.

The firm, which recently marked 150 years of business, has helped rebuild the capital after two world wars — repairing the Swan & Edgar Store in Piccadilly Circus after it was damaged in a Zeppelin raid in 1917, and leading work on institutions such as Parliament and Southwark Cathedral in the aftermath of the Blitz.

The firm is at work on Facebook’s HQ in King’s Cross.
