Pictures show congestion on the A52 Clifton Bridge as traffic continues to build after lockdown easing

These Pictures show how how traffic continue to build on Clifton Bridge as lockdown restrictions ease.

Taken on the afternoon Tuesday, July 14, vehicles were moving slowly as they made their way along the road.

It's now been five months since the road was closed on February 6 after corroded steel cables were discovered during an inspection.

Only one lane remains open while engineers conduct repairs on the bridge.

Work is still not expected to be finished until at least the end of the year.

As lockdown restrictions continue to be eased, more traffic has appeared on the road according to reports from our readers and our reporters at the scene.

Figures also show a rise.

Before lockdown on March 23 (March 2 - March 22), an average of 37,025 vehicles passed along the A52 between Abbey Street and Clifton Lane every day, a stretch of road just over one and a half miles long.

This plummeted to numbers as low as 5,296 on a single day during lockdown, but levels have slowly been increasing to 20,000-plus as more motorists take to the roads as restrictive measures continue to be eased.
