Pictures show burnt out car which caught fire on M1

Fire crews have released shocking pictures of a burnt out car after it burst into flames on the M1.

Crews from Stapleford and Ilkeston stations dealth with the car fire on the M1 at junction 25 to 26 northbound on Sunday night (April 18).

The fire service said both the driver and passenger escaped with no injuries.

A large plume of smoke rose into the night sky as firefighters tackled the incident.

Two breathing apparatus and one hose reel was used to tackle the engine fire, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

Highways England also helped during the incident by closing three lanes for the crew's safety as well as recovering the vehicle.
