Pictures released as Balbriggan Main Street and Harbour to get major transformation as part of €20 million plan

One of Dublin's busiest towns is set to get a major transformation as part of a multi-million euro plan.

Balbriggan is set to be left unrecognisable after a face lift said to be worth in the region of €20 million to take place in the next five years.

The town's Main Street, Harbour and surrounding areas will change for good following a survey taken by over 4,000 people living in the area.

The residents were given a menu of potential improvements with transforming the Main Street and connecting it to a re-imagined Harbour the top priority.

As part of the Our Balbriggan 2019-2025 Rejuvenation Plan, the heart of the Main Street will be met with the redeveloping of derelict buildings as well as the addition of green areas, water features and an event space.

The Harbour will reconnect with a new look Quay Street which will feature a "quality civic and meeting space".

Martello Tower will be restored under the plan and Bremore Regional Amenity Park will receive world-class play facilities.

By 2025, a much sought-after Balbriggan to Skerries Greenway will be developed also according to the plan.

According to the latest CSO figures, Balbriggan is the youngest town in Ireland with an average age of just under 31 years of age.

Chief Executive of Fingal County Council Paul Reid said about the development: “There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that in the not too distant future, Balbriggan will become more widely known again as a fantastic place to live, work and do business.

"The resources, both human and financial have been allocated, and the last remaining piece required is the implementation of the Our Balbriggan plan."
