Pictures: Murder investigation continues at Avonmouth trading estate

Investigations were this afternoon continuing after a man's body was found in Avonmouth.

The body was found submerged in water by a dog walker in open land off an access lane close to Boundary Road on Sunday evening (March 8) at around 5.30pm.

Avon and Somerset Police Detective Superintendent Julie Mackay has appealed for information from the public.

She said: "We are investigating a suspicious death after a body was discovered submerged in some water.

"In the fields just behind me here it is where it was found.

"We are really keen to find out how long he had been there.

"So anybody who was perhaps walking their dog or getting some fresh air at lunchtime that may have seen something that was perhaps a little bit suspicious at the time but they were not quite sure, please get in touch."

Police previously said a post-mortem examination would be carried out today (March 9) to establish the circumstances of the death.

Ms Mackay, of the Major Crime Investigation Team, has previously said: “We have a team of officers and staff working on this inquiry and our priority is to identify the victim and locate his next of kin.

“We don’t yet know how long the body was at the location before being found but a forensic post-mortem examination will be carried out by a Home Office pathologist later today to determine how the man died."

Anyone who can help is asked to call the Major Crime Investigation Team on 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5220056436.
