Pictures: Extinction Rebellion protest against Bristol Airport growth

Eco-campaigners protested against expansion of Bristol Airport today (January 11).

Extinction Rebellion (XR) Bath organized a protest against the airport's development in Keynsham town centre.

The group believes expansion will lead to increased air pollution and gridlock on the roads.

The protest formed at the bandstand in Memorial Park at around 10am.

Traffic was brought to a standstill as the group led a march with a Samba Band.

The latest action by the group, which brought Bristol to a standstill in summer last year, follows news it was mistakenly labelled as "extremist" by police.

The Guardian reported a leaked 12-page guide produced by counter-terrorism police in the South-East described the group as having an extremist ideology.

XR featured alongside threats to national security such as neo-Nazi terrorism and a pro-terrorist Islamist group.

The guide, aimed at police officers, government organisations and teachers, was dated November last year.

Detective chief superintendent Kath Barnes, head of Counter Terrorism Policing South East, admitted it was "error of judgement" and the document has been recalled.

A spokesman for XR said he "can't help but wonder was this a deliberate attempt to silence a legitimate cause".
