Pictures capture moment Bristol man's car became submerged at Brean beach

Pictures have captured the moment a car became submerged in sand and mud at a beach near Weston-super-Mare .

The VW Golf became stuck at Brean Beach after being left by its owner last Wednesday (July 3)

The Bristol man returned to find it had been swallowed up by the sand, mud and sea, Somerset Live reports .

The vehicle's owner claimed he hadn't seen the warning signs before driving onto the beach.

The beach warden told Burnham on Sea.com: “The driver, who was from Bristol, claimed he hadn’t seen the warning signs as he drove onto the beach.

The driver said he hadn't seen warning signs (MIKE LANG)

"And both he and the passenger said they hadn’t read the safety leaflet that they were given.”

It is thought the vehicle will be removed in the next few days.

Pictures taken at 3pm yesterday (July 8) show how the shifting sands of the beach have partially covered the car.
