Pictured: Lisa Smith spotted at Dublin District Court

Counter terror detectives have been granted more time to question Lisa Smith about her activities since she fled to Islamic State.

The former Irish defence forces member, 38, who converted to Islam a decade ago and married an Isil fighter was brought to Dublin District Court on Tuesday morning. She had been arrested after she arrived back in Ireland on Sunday.

The mother of one was present for the hearing after being brought under armed escort from Kevin Street Garda Station where she has been questioned by members of the Special Detective Unit.

At about 9.30am, at a special siting of the court, Judge Patricia McNamara acceded to a request to from senior gardai to extend the detention time to question her on suspected terror activities abroad.

Dressed all and black, she left court covered from head to toe with a coat and scarf over her. She was walked by a female detective to an unmarked Garda van to bring her back to the station, under escort.

She remains in custody under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

She was represented by solicitor Peter Corrigan.

The judge stressed that there were strict reporting restrictions in relation to the application to extend her time in Garda custody.
