Pictured: Dublin's newest wine bar opens up in the heart of the city

It's no secret that one of our favourite tipples here at Dublin Live is a nice, full-bodied glass of red.

So imagine our excitement when we heard that a new wine bar has opened its doors in the heart of the capital.

Winedown, on Montague Street, is the newest (and by far the trendiest) addition to Dublin city centre.

The wine bar is the latest brainchild of entrepreneur Maeve O’Malley, the woman behind one of Dublin’s favourite cheesy cafe, Meltdown.

Winedown offers food and wine with relaxed service in a space filled with contemporary Irish art.

Nibbles start at €4 and include Smoked Almonds and Gougeré with Smoked Mackerel Pâte.

Small plates are from €6.50 are made up of a some delicious combinations like Hamhock & Gruyeré Croquettes, with Hot Stuff aioli and House Cured Organic Salmon, Remoulade & Brown soda bread.

For the Large Plate options, which start at €16.50 you can look forward to Jerusalem Artichoke Cooked Three Ways, (Windeown’s) Fish & Chips and Duck Ragu, Gnocci & Celeriac.

Not forgetting something sweet, indulge in a sticky Treacle tart with clotted cream or for something festive, a Mince pie with crème anglaise.

Wine is available by the glass from €11 while bottles of red white and sparkling wines are available from €26.

O’Malley said: “I've always wanted to own my own restaurant and I’m so grateful for all of the support I've received with Meltdown to get me to this point. I'm looking forward to serving happy customers in this beautiful space on Montague street.”
