Pictured: Dublin politician's appeal as gardai called after nearly 100 young people spotted partying

Gardai were called after a hoard of nearly 100 young people were spotted partying in Dun Laoghaire.

A total of five garda squad cars and a public order unit van rushed to 'The Gut' at the back of the West Pier last night following several complaints from residents in the area.

Fine Gael Senator Barry Ward told Dublin Live: "They were having some kind of an outdoor party. You could hear it. The guards came down and broke it up."

Senator Ward has appealed to young people to "just hold on" until the easing of lockdown restrictions on December 1.

He said: "Everybody is frustrated and it's particularly difficult for young people. But what we need to say to them is just hold on and the easing of the restrictions is coming. The danger is if they break the restrictions now it could jeopardise everybody's enjoyment of Christmas.

"I do understand their frustration but all we're asking for is a small bit of forbearance and asking people to hold on."

A garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "While on active patrol Gardai from Dun Laoghaire attended at West Pier, Dun Laoghaire shortly after 9 pm on Saturday 28 November 2020 following reports of a disturbance. A group of youths that had gathered in the area dispersed without incident. No arrests were made."
