Picture 'sums up Irish Christmas' in 2021 as 15-year-old left heartbroken after Covid strikes

An Irish mother has shared a picture that "sums up" Christmas in Ireland in 2021.

Tina Hynes and her family of seven kids were all looking forward to spending Christmas together before Covid struck at the last minute.

And 15-year-old Leo has been left devastated after he had hoped to see his sister Hannah, 25, until she contracted the virus.

Leo, who many may remember from the Late Late Toy Show in 2018, has down syndrome and has been hugely disappointed by the news.

His mother Tina captured a picture of Leo and his sister kissing through glass - the closest they will get this Christmas.

Tina told the Irish Mirror: "My daughter tested positive yesterday so can't come over tomorrow. My fifteen-year-old son, Leo, went over to her house this evening to say happy Christmas to her, all masked up and through a closed window. He kissed her through the glass.

"You can feel the heartbreak in her eyes that 100,000 people in Ireland are feeling too.

"He's been so excited and counting down the days since Halloween. I have seven children, but only one girl and he's absolutely devastated that she can't come over tomorrow.

"He misses her so much. And really can't believe she can't come over. But accepts it because he accepts everything."

Thousands of people are isolating this Christmas as a result of the Omicron's rapid spread - have you any nice pictures you'd like to share? Comment below or send an email to cormac.o'shea@reachplc.com .
