Picture shows overturned lorry that has fully closed M60

A dramatic picture shows the overturned lorry that sparked the full closure of the M60 at Barton Bridge this morning.

The lorry fell onto the central reservation at around 7am as Storm Franklin battered the region with strong winds and heavy rain.

The driver escaped the crash with cuts to their head and a broken wrist, motorway police said.

Barton Bridge has been closed off both ways all morning while emergency services work at the scene and repair work is carried out.

Long delays leading up to the incident remain, while some roads in the surrounding areas through Eccles and Worsley are also congested.

Diversions are in place on both sides of the motorway.

Alongside a picture of the overturned lorry, North West Motorway Police said in a tweet: "This is the scene that greeted us this morning on Barton Bridge.

" Driver escaped with cuts to head and broken wrist.

" Great team work by all ZME and XT patrols to get the closures on and deal at the scene before later being assisted by HE.

"Barton is still closed."
