Picture shows emergency services tackling huge car fire

Fire crews were called to a hill south of Bristol last night to deal with a car fire.

Crews from Bedminster rushed to East Dundry Lane, between Dundry and Whitchurch at around 9.15 on Sunday evening, September 1, to reports of a car on fire, and found a Mercedes already well alight.

Firefighters donned breathing apparatus and used hoses to put out the fire, and said the cause was thought to be deliberate.

People living in Dundry on the southern edge of Bristol that the country lanes and dead-end tracks on the hill overlooking the city have been attracting anti-social behaviour, drug use and car thieves for years.

East Dundry Lane runs along the top of Dundry Hill, a beauty spot with stunning views over the city.

The fire on the edge of Whitchurch was not the only car torched overnight.

A VW Polo was set alight in Beverston Gardens in Lawrence Weston at around 3.30am, and again firefighters said they believed the car was thought to be deliberate.
