Picture shows carnage left behind by M5 crash at Almondsbury Interchange for M4

A serious crash caused long delays on the M5 at the Almonsbury Interchange today (January 12).

All emergency services attended the scene and two lanes were initially closed but thankfully no-one was seriously injured.

Multiple fire crews, ambulance staff and police were called to the crash shortly after 10am.

Drivers were warned to take extra time to allow for their journey and there were diversions in place.

The accident occurred shortly after 10am and involved a silver car northbound just after Junction 15.

Traffic was diverted to join the M5 southbound, leave at J16 and go around the roundabout to rejoin the M5 northbound.

All lanes were re-opened just after 11am and Fire Officer Steve Quinton later tweeted to say: "Excellent effort by all involved. Occupants released safely with only minor injuries. Road to open shortly and thanks for everybody’s patience in what was a tricky rescue."

Some delays remain. Follow the latest updates here.
