Picture Scotland: Stunning photo of rainbow framing Scots castle sees first winner of our new photography competition

A rainbow framing the heart of Scotland – a stunning photograph and the perfect way to kick off our great new picture competition in style.

Kevin Spence’s rainbow over Blair Castle in Perthshire was the worthy winner of our Picture Scotland competition - bagging the amateur snapper a £100 prize.

In its first week, we received hundreds of your photos and it was a difficult choice to pick a winner such was the quality of entries.

William Wood’s photo of Glenfinnan Monument was also a worthy contender.

He wrote: “On a typical Scottish cold and wet day but the sun managed to burst through the clouds for a few seconds behind Bonnie Prince Charlie to get this nice silhouette effect”.

Other landmarks captured in the first round of photos include John Lang’s view of Achnambeithach cottage at the foot of Aonach Dubh in Glencoe, which he took last Saturday after reading about the new competition.

There’s also a great photo by Colin Duffy of the Glasgow IMAX which seemed to be drawing in the sky to its silvery shape.

A puffin on the Isle of May and the frothy sea at Blackwaterfoot beach on Arran showcased both Scotland’s incredible scenery and its stunning wildlife.

Congratulations to all who entered and ­hopefully these photos will inspire you to try for next week’s £100 prize.

We are again on the look out for photos showing Scotland in all her glory and they can be epic or funny and be of scenery, animals or a ­Braveheart you know.
