Picture Scotland: Magical photo of beautifully restored fountain in Edinburgh wins week four of our exciting photo comp

What a magical winner of this week’s Picture Scotland competition.

It cost £2million to restore but Simon Fox’s photo of the Ross Fountain in Edinburgh with the castle in the background makes it worth every penny. And wins the amateur snapper £100.

Speaking about the stunning shot, he said: “I can’t remember the last time I saw the fountain in use so it was an absolute treat to find it fully functioning.

"It took about 20 attempts to get the right angle with the sun just behind the top of the fountain for that glowing effect.”

Also capturing Scotland in all its glory was Chic McCormick who was walking in a nearby field and found a stunning purple lesser periwinkle covered in glistening frost.

The beautiful shot really captures the season, showing off how pretty even the littlest things can be in the winter time.

Raymond Watson was on holiday when he came across a rare red squirrel nibbling a nut in Glenmore Forest Park near Aviemore.

He said: "While on holiday with my wife we went to the park in hope of spotting the red squirrels.

"We were lucky as we managed to take a pic of this wee guy nibbling a nut."
