Picture of ‘unidentified item’ found at Scots recycling centre before being destroyed by bomb squad

An ‘unidentified’ object which sparked the evacuation of a Scots recycling centre has been destroyed by a bomb squad.

Emergency services were called to the Seafield Household Waste Recycling Centre in Edinburgh at around 9.20am on Thursday, April 22.

The suspect 'device' fell from inside a bin bag in front of a shocked contractor who immediately raised the alarm.

A police cordon was put in place while staff were ordered to stay away as officers awaited the arrival of a specialist bomb disposal team.

The item, which had wires, a display unit and a long cylinder attached, was found to pose no risk to the public.

It has since been safely destroyed.
