Picture of the day: Valentino menswear

Valentino menswear show
Cape-like coats, architectural shapes, a sports-meets-couture aesthetic and lashings of leather goods held like clutches: these were the key ingredients in Wednesday's Valentino A/W 2012 menswear show. Shown during Pitti Uomo in Florence - the event that signals the start of the menswear show season - this collection also marked 50 years since the house of Valentino staged its first fashion show in the city. The label is now designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, who imbued their super-luxe vision with a modern riff on the 1960s. The takeaway styling tip: put your coat on your shoulders and make like it's a cloak-cape. You can pre-order from this show now at thecorner.com, which would put you very much ahead of the curve.
