Picture of Nowzad staff arriving in UK ‘made Pen Farthing cry’ as Operation Ark draws to a close

A picture posted to Nowzad’s Facebook page shows a group of Nowzad staff having landed in the UK.

Flying the staff over is the final step in Operation Ark, Nowzad’s rescue mission to save their staff and 140 dogs and 60 cats in Afghanistan which launched on August 15.

Although the staff were planning to fly with the animals on August 27, the escalating situation with the Taliban meant the animals had to go ahead with Farthing on a charter plane, leaving the Afghan staff behind.

Since arriving back in the UK, Farthing has been working hard to evacuate his 68 staff members out of Afghanistan into the UK.

On September 11, they were evacuated to Islamabad to be cared for by the British High Commission.

Now, groups of the Nowzad staff are arriving in UK and Operation Ark is almost complete.

Nowzad’s full Facebook post reads: “People and animals. That was the deal with #operationark You; the @nowzadrescue family made it all happen.

“Together you rescued the Nowzad people and animals. And whilst the dogs and cats arrived weeks ago what we can announce is that the staff have been arriving in groups to the UK.

“Made Pen Farthing cry to see this photo. The opportunities they have ahead of them now is something you all need to be proud of.

“From us to you - thank you. We will update you on what is happening with them all as we understand the process better.”

In the comments, one person said, “Congratulations!!! These people with a heart of gold deserve the best!”

Another said, “Welcome!!! I can’t imagine how you all must be feeling, having had to leave your homes and your country, as well as friends and family.

“I hope you will be happy here. Please let us know how we can support you.”

A third said: “I used to be a veterinary nurse so this case has been so close to my heart.

“Thank you for everything you have done to get the animals here and I’m so very happy that you have finally joined them.”

Pen Farthing also tweeted the photo from his personal Twitter account, saying: “Made me cry if honest seeing this photo. We should all be so proud of this.”
